Mary Ann Martin, 73 years old of Monroeville, Indiana, passed away at 2:22 a.m. on Monday, December 16, 2013 in the Summit City Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Ft. Wayne, IN. She was born on Thursday, August 8, 1940 in San Diego, California the daughter of the late Dale C. Hillman and the late Mary A. (Bloom) Hillman. She married Erven Dale Martin on February 24, 1962 in Patuxent River NAS, Maryland and he survives. Mary Ann served her country in the United States Navy from 1958 to 1961. Her ties to the Navy began when she was born, as her father was in the Navy. As an 18 month old baby, her family was stationed at Pearl Harbor and survived the bombing on December 7, 1941. Her ties to the Navy continued as she met and eventually married Erven Dale Martin on February 24, 1962 at Patuxent River NAS, Maryland. She was a devoted Navy wife and mother while her husband was fulfilling his active duty requirements for 24+ years. This bond of devotion and friendship continued for over 51 years of marriage. Mary Ann was a former member of the St. Rose De Lima Catholic Church, Monroeville. Her love of genealogy led her to become associated with the Allen County Genealogical Society of Indiana. Mary Ann was an avid Colts and Cubs fan. She also had a love for travel having been to nearly all 50 United States and also lived in Japan and Australia. Surviving are her husband, Erven Dale Martin of Monroeville, IN; daughter, Katherine Ann Martin of Ft. Wayne, IN; daughter, Deborah (Rick) Walters of Ft. Wayne, IN; son, Michael (Cristina) Martin of Ft. Wayne, IN; sister, Jean (Billy) Muse of Memphis, TN; brother, Jim (Judy) Hillman of Saratoga, CA; 8 grandchildren: Caelis Hoyle, Christopher Walters, Jessica Walters, Jacob Walters, Sydney Walters, Shelby Walters, Natalie Martin, and Valarie Martin; 6 great-grandchildren: Isaac Crooks, Mikayla Crooks, Isabella Crooks, Lorelai Hoyle, Liam Hoyle, and Alexander Hoyle. Following Mary Ann's wishes, private family services were held. Burial in the Marion National Cemetery. Preferred memorials are to American Diabetes Association and National Kidney Foundation.
