Norvin "Snorty" Bultemeier, 80 years old of Decatur, Indiana, passed away on Friday, January 10, 2014 at his residence. He was born on Friday, June 16, 1933 in Adams County, Indiana the son of the late Walter Bultemeier and the late Clara (Miller) Bultemeier. He married Ileen Lampe on October 18, 1953 in Christ Lutheran Church in Woodburn. Snorty proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1955 to 1957. He was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church, Bingen where he served as a deacon, trustee, and sang in the church choir for over 50 years. Snorty was active in the Lutheran Men of Song for ten years. He was also active in coaching grade school basketball at Bingen & Wyneken. Snorty, along with his wife Ileen, owned and operated Die Deutsche Ecke Cheese House from 1974 to 1998. He had previously worked as a bookkeeper for the Adams County Highway Department and was the Sports announcer for WADM Radio in Adams County during the 1970's and also hosted Snorty's Polka Parade. In 1975 he started, in his front field, what is now known as the Oktoberfest in Hoagland. Surviving are his wife, Ileen Bultemeier of Decatur; daughter, Ann Souder of Decatur; son, Roger (Dr. Carla Grote) Bultemeier of Decatur; sister, Malinda Bieberich of Preble; and brother, Oswald (Margaret) Bultemeier of LaGrange. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Christopher Souder; Victor Bultemeier; Benjamin Bultemeier; Andrew Bultemeier; and Malinda Bultemeier. Preceding Norvin in death were a sister, Alvena Reinking; and three brothers, Edgar; Alfred & Walter Bultemeier. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 15, 2014 in the St. John Lutheran Church, Bingen with Pastor Peter Brock officiating. Interment will follow in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery , Bingen. Friends will be received from 1 to 4 & 5 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, January 14 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to St. John Lutheran Church, Bingen or Worship for Shut-Ins.
