V. W. "Bun" Affolder, 94 years old of Decatur, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 20, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on Friday, February 21, 1919 in Van Wert County, Ohio the son of the late William Affolder and the late Lovina (Egger) Affolder. Bun married Phyllis R. Houk on October 19, 1941 in Hoagland, Indiana and she passed away on November 22, 1993. On April 8, 1995 he married Alice C. (Holle) Moses in Zion Lutheran Church in Decatur and she survives. Bun served his country in the United States Army during WWII. After high school Bun was drafted by the army and was in the 1st group to leave Adams County. He spent 4 ½ years in service with three of those overseas. He landed on D-Day, June 6, 1944, on Omaha Beach and later was in the "Bulge". He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Decatur and the American Legion Post #43 of Decatur. Bun retired from Thunderbird Products with 18 years of service and had previously worked for 22 years in the heating & air conditioning business. He also worked for 22 years at Affolder Insurance. Surviving are his wife, Alice C. Affolder of Decatur; daughter, Sheri L. Affolder of Ypsilanti, Michigan; daughter & her husband, Lu Ann Porter & Spyros Enotiades of Dallas, Texas; step-son, Steven R. Moses of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; step-son, Ken D. Moses of Decatur; brother, Rolland Affolder of Indianapolis; sister, Kathryn Sommer of Yorktown, Indiana. He is also survived by a step-granddaughter, Amy Moses of Decatur and three step great-grandchildren, Rebekka Moses Beitler, Roxanna Moses Beitler, and Justuin Moses Beitler. Preceding Bun in death were a step-son, Jerry Moses, a step-granddaughter, Laura Moses and a sister, Pauline Anderson. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 23, 2014 in the Zion Lutheran Church with Rev. Phil Phifer & Pastor Bob Becker officiating. Interment will follow in the Decatur Cemetery with Military Graveside Services to be conducted by the American Legion Post #43 of Decatur. Friends will be received from 2 to 5 & 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Preferred memorials are to Zion Lutheran Church in Decatur.
