Shirley Janes Hawkins

Shirley Jane Hawkins, 71 years old of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and a former longtime resident of Decatur, Indiana passed away at 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 in the Summit City Nursing & Rehabilitation Center located in Ft. Wayne. Shirley was born on Wednesday, April 22, 1942 in Hutchinson, Kansas the daughter of the late Earl Green and the late Dolly (Jennings) Green. She married the late Charles Hawkins on April 1, 1972 in Great Bend, Kansas and he passed away on December 4, 2000. Shirley was a member of the Decatur Church of God in Decatur, Indiana where she had been the past Sunday School secretary; member of the choir; and a Sunday School teacher. Shirley was a 1960 graduate of Buhler Rural High in Buhler, Kansas. Shirley retired in May of 2004 from the Fort Wayne State Developmental Center after 20 years of service. Surviving are her son, Dale (Heather) Hawkins of Lafayette, IN; brother, Carl Green of Hutchinson, KS; brother, Larry Green of Turon, KS; granddaughter, Shelby Lynn Hawkins of Lafayette, IN; granddaughter, Sara Beth Hawkins of Lafayette, IN. Preceding Shirley in death were one brother, Charles Green; one sister, Donna Starks. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 27, 2014 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home with Rev. Sandy Hildebrand officiating. Burial will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery in Hutchinson, Kansas. Friends will be received from 12:00 Noon - 4:00 p.m. Sunday, January 26, 2014 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, Indiana. Preferred memorials are to Huntington's Disease Society of America.
