Harold W. Schweyer

Harold W. Schweyer, 85 years old of Ohio City, Ohio, passed away at 3:40 a.m. on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 in the Colonial Nursing Center located in Rockford, Ohio where he resided for the past 2 1/2 years. Harold was born on Monday, October 8, 1928 in Allen County, Indiana the son of the late Clarence W. Schweyer and the late Ruth (Shultz) Schweyer. He married Esther M. (Brandt) Fox on August 25, 1972 in the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church-Schumm and she survives. Harold was a member of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church-Schumm; a charter member of the Rolling Sams Camping Club in Van Wert County. Harold served his country in the United States Air Force from 1951-1953. Harold retired January 18, 1988 from Zollner Piston Corp. in Ft. Wayne, Indiana with 30 years of service. Surviving are his wife, Esther M. Schweyer of Ohio City, OH; daughter, Cheryl Lapp of Laotto, IN; son, Wendell (Mary Beth) Schweyer of Ft. Wayne, IN; daughter, Melody Serrato of Combes, TX; daughter, Christine Fox of Ohio City, OH; brother, Russell A. (Imogene) Schweyer of Ft. Wayne, IN; brother, Donald E. (Luella) Schweyer of Hudson, IN; sister, Ruthann (Ron) Knoblauch of New Haven, IN; sister-in-law, Bonnie Schweyer of Ft. Wayne, IN; 4 grandchildren: Clifford (Teisha) Lapp; Shawn (Noe) Ramirez; Christopher Serrato; Courtney Fox; and 6 great-grandchildren. Preceding Harold in death was one brother, Clarence Schweyer. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 28, 2014 in the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Schumm with Pastor Jeff Patterson officiating. Interment will follow in the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, Schumm, OH. Friends will be received from 1:30 -4:30 p.m. and 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, February 27, 2014 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, IN and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Preferred memorials are to Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church-Schumm; Activity Department at the Colonial Nursing Center; or State of the Heart Hospice of Mercer County.
