Eugene R. "Hugo" Murchland, 90 years old of Decatur, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at his residence. He was born on Wednesday, June 27, 1923 in Dixon, Indiana the son of the late William B. Murchland and the late Amelia M. A. (Zimmerman) Murchland. He married Mary Jane Worden on April 13, 1947 in the Salem United Church of Christ. Hugo served his country in the United States Air Force during WWII. He was a member of Salem United Church of Christ in Magley where he served on several church boards. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #43 of Decatur. Hugo was a graduate of Monroeville High School and retired in 1985 from Fruehauf with 43 years of service. Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Mary Jane Murchland of Decatur; daughter, Donna Nash of Craigville; son, Dean Murchland of Las Vegas, Nevada; son, Max Murchland of Markle; daughter, Beverly Murchland of Fort Wayne; son, Kim David Murchland of Kimmel, Indiana; twin sister, Jean Renier of Monroeville; brother, William Murchland, Jr. of Parowan, Utah; 11 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren. Preceding Hugo in death were a son, Gale Murchland; five sisters, Lela Siders; Edith Siders; Samantha Waterman; Lula Mull; & Glenna Murchland and two brothers, Paul Murchland and Olen "Tony" Murchland. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 10, 2014 in the Salem United Church of Christ, Magley. Interment will follow in the Salem United Church of Christ Cemetery with Military Graveside Honors to be conducted by the American Legion Post #43 Color Guard. Friends will be received from 12 noon to 4 p.m., Sunday, March 9 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Preferred memorials are to Adams County Community Foundation - Heart Fund or Adams County Community Foundation - Cancer Fund.
