Raymond A. Saalfrank

Raymond A. Saalfrank, 86 years old of Hoagland, Indiana, passed away on Friday, April 4, 2014 at the Lutheran Life Villages at Pine Valley. He was born on Thursday, March 22, 1928 in Allen County, Indiana the son of the late Carl Saalfrank and the late Clara M. (Judt) Saalfrank. He married Marilyn Saalfrank on June 29, 1947 in Antioch Lutheran Church and she passed away on September 21, 2005. Raymond was a graduate of Hoagland High School in 1946 and a member of the Antioch Lutheran Church in Hoagland, where he had served on the church board. He was also a member of the Hoagland Area Advancement Association. He retired in 1988 as supervisor from Container Corporation with 42 years of service. Surviving are his son, Michael (Beverly) Saalfrank of Fort Wayne, Indiana; daughter, Sheryl Grabner of Fort Wayne, Indiana; daughter, Cathy (Kyle Gardner) Saalfrank of Milliken, Colorado; daughter, Amy (Dave)Chappell of Fort Wayne, Indiana; brother, Richard Saalfrank of Ossian, Indiana; brother, Robert (Celeste) Saalfrank of Fort Wayne, Indiana; sister, Alberta Whittern of Monroeville, Indiana; and sister, Shirley Clover of Fort Wayne, Indiana. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Meggin (Brad) Gates; Abbie (Jason) Howard; Erin (Joe) Grabner Payton; Joshua (Jenifer) Grabner; Caitlyn (Joe Best) Evans; Kyle Evans; Nicole Chappell; & Sydney Chappell and 11 great-grandchildren. Preceding Raymond in death were two brothers, Melvin & George Saalfrank. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 7, 2014 in the Antioch Lutheran Church with Pastor Dave Taylor officiating. Interment will follow in the Antioch Cemetery. Friends will be received from noon to 3 p.m. & 4 to 6 p.m., Sunday, April 6 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Preferred memorials are to Antioch Lutheran Church.
