Manford M. Shank, 86 years old of Hoagland, Indiana, passed away at 4:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 24, 2014 at his residence. Manford was born on Friday, February 17, 1928 in Fort Jennings, Ohio the son of the late Manford M. Shank Sr. and the late Elpha M. (Unland) Shank. He married Eulah F. Gause on June 27, 1948 in Mercer County, Ohio. Manford attended the Monroeville Church of the Nazarene and was a member of the IUE Local 963. He served his country in the United States Army. Manford retired from Phelps Dodge in 1990 after 40 years of service as a machine operator. In his retirement, he enjoyed wood carving. Surviving are his wife, Eulah F. Shank of Hoagland; son, Thomas L. (Joyce) Shank of Kansas City, Kansas; daughter, Linda M. (William) Swygart of Hoagland; daughter, Alice R. Shank of Front Royal, Virginia; sister, Alta M. Ault of Lexington, Kentucky; seven grandchildren, Matthew Shank; Timothy (Amanda) Shank; Laura Swygart; William (Jen) Swygart; Ben (Adrienne) Swygart; David Swygart; Christopher Swygart; and five great-grandchildren. Preceding Manford in death were four sisters and two brothers. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 26, 2014 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur with Pastor Brent Hickman officiating. Interment will follow in the East Bethel United Brethren Cemetery in Mercer County, Ohio. Friends will be received from 5-8 p.m. Friday, April 25, 2014 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Saturday. Preferred memorials are to Heartland Hospice of Fort Wayne, Indiana.
