Geneva Garnet Brown

January 20, 1920 — April 29, 2014

Geneva Garnet Brown, 94 years old of Decatur, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at Adams Woodcrest in Decatur. She was born on Tuesday, January 20, 1920 in Switzerland County, Indiana the daughter of the late Thomas Bennett and the late Eleanor (Bromwell) Bennett. She married David Earl Brown on October 15, 1937 in Switzerland County, Indiana and he passed away on June 27, 1984. The young couple and their daughter moved to Decatur in 1942 to help with the effort in this area during WW II. They moved to the Village of Monmouth before the end of the war and Geneva continued to reside there to this time. Geneva was a member of the former Decatur Missionary Church where she was a Sunday school teacher for 35 years. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and working crossword puzzles. Geneva loved I. U. Basketball and Cincinnati Reds baseball. She enjoyed watching The Price is Right, Jeopardy, & The Wheel of Fortune. Geneva was a graduate of Patriot High School in 1936 where she was the valedictorian. She retired on July 1, 1985 from Decatur Industries with 21 years of service. She had also worked for many years at the Decatur Canning Factory during the tomato season. Surviving are her daughter, Sondra L. (C.Allen) Lehman of Monroe; son, Donald W. (Kathy) Brown of Decatur; son, Michael D. (Becky) Brown of Decatur; sister, Rita Mae Deye of Cincinnati, Ohio; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and two great great-grandchildren. Preceding Geneva in death were three sisters and four brothers. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 4, 2014 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home with Pastor Kenneth Hogg officiating. Interment will follow in the Decatur Cemetery. Friends will be received from 1 to 5 p.m., Saturday, May 3 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Sunday. Preferred memorials are to Family LifeCare or Cornerstone Community Church.
