Betty J. Marquardt, 90 years old of Monroeville, Indiana, passed away at 10:20 a.m. on Sunday, May 4, 2014 in the Adams Heritage located in Monroeville. Betty was born on Tuesday, July 24, 1923 in Yoder, Indiana the daughter of the late Charles A. Bumgardner and the late Mabel E. (Allen) Bumgardner. She married the late James A. Marquardt on March 31, 1947 in St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Monroeville and he passed away on November 12, 2003. Betty was a member of the Marquardt Lutheran Church in Monroeville and was involved in the Ladies Aid at the church. In addition to her church, she was a member of the Monroeville Historical Society. Betty enjoyed sewing, tending to her flowers, reading, and being around her grandchildren. Betty graduated from Hoagland High School in 1942 and was a homemaker. Surviving are her son, James Mace (Lynne) Marquardt of Grabill, IN; daughter, Myra J. (Rick) Heck of Defiance, OH; daughter, Mary L. Garber of Maples, IN; 7 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 13 step-great-grandchildren, 1 step-great-great-grandson. Preceding Betty in death were 1 brother, William A. Bumgardner & 1 son-in-law, Michael Garber. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 8, 2014 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel, Monroeville, IN. Interment will follow in the Marquardt Lutheran Cemetery, Monroeville, Indiana. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2014 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel, Monroeville, IN and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Thursday. Preferred memorials are to Marquardt Lutheran Church or Adams Heritage Nursing Home.
