Joyce L. Heckman, 84 years old of Decatur, Indiana, passed away at 11:25 p.m. on Monday, May 19, 2014 in the Adams Memorial Hospital. Joyce was born on Saturday, October 12, 1929 in Wells County, Indiana the daughter of the late Herman H. Werling and the late Esther E. (Graft) Werling. She married Delmar Heckman on June 5, 1949 in Zion Lutheran Church, Friedheim. Joyce was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Friedheim; Lutheran Women's Missionary League (LWML); and the Altar Guild of the church. Joyce was also a homemaker. Surviving are her husband, Delmar Heckman of Decatur; son, Steven K. (Kathy) Heckman of Fort Wayne; daughter, Janice Kay (William L.) Heath of Convoy, Ohio; son, Dale A. (Leesa) Heckman of Decatur; sister, Phyllis A. (Robert) Jackson of Walkerton; sister, Lois E. Boyts of New Paris; sister, Bonnie L. (Albert) McDowell of Goshen; sister, Carol J. (Larry) Curry of Ossian; sister, Wanda L. (Tom) Eichhorn of Paonia, Colorado; brother, Doyle H. (Laura) Werling of Ossian; and sister, Jean E. (Ron) Anderson of Bluffton. She is also survived by nine grandchildren: Bryan (Jeni) Heckmah; Joanna (Patrick) Chadwell; Ryan (Jill) Heath; Eric (Karen) Heath; Renee (Chad) Klima; Amanda (Dustin) Carpenter; Julie (Keith) Bock; Kevin Heckman; & Dawn (Chad) Agler; and 14 great-grandchildren: Justin Heckman, Megan Heckman, Kaiden Chadwell, Cole Heath, Sydney Heath, Alexis Heath, Jackson Heath, Allyson Heath, Brayden Heath, Zachary Heath, Mason Heath, Mikayla Klima, Brenna Carpenter, & Taylor Bock. Joyce was preceded in death by a brother, Donald M. Werling and a sister, Bernice M. Miller. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 23, 2014 in the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Friedheim with Pastor Daniel Dahling officiating. Interment will follow in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Friedheim. Friends will be received from 2-5 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, May 22, 2014 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, IN and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Preferred memorials are to Zion Lutheran Church-Friedheim; Worship for Shut Ins; or the Donor's Choice.
