Arnold Ostermeyer

Arnold "Arnie" Ostermeyer, 93 years old of Decatur, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at his residence. Arnie was born on Friday, October 22, 1920 in Wells County, Indiana the son of the late Martin Ostermeyer and the late Sophie (Thieme) Ostermeyer. He married the late Evelyn Schroeder on January 18, 1942 in the Zion Lutheran Church- Friedheim and she passed away on September 18, 2004. Arnie was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church-Decatur; and the American Legion Post #43 in Decatur. Arnie served his country in the United States Army during World War II where he served in the Signal Corps. Arnie had been employed as a carpenter with Clarence Bultemeier Construction for 15 years and with the Hawk Construction Co. in Ft. Wayne, retiring in 1986 with 30 years of service. Following his retirement, he still was able to use his many talents in assisting others in construction projects....both in his church and community. Surviving are his daughter, Susan Howey of Ft. Wayne, IN; son, Anthony Ostermeyer of Decatur, IN; sister, Bernice Bearman of New Haven, IN; granddaughter, Julia (Daniel) Salinas of Columbus, OH; granddaughter, Tina (Mark) Cousino of Roswell, GA; grandson, Matt (Julie) Ostermeyer of Ft. Wayne, IN; 8 great-grandchildren: Kalob Salinas, Drew Salinas, Brandon Cousino, Libby Cousino, Keaton Ostermeyer, Madison Ostermeyer, Braxton Ostermeyer, & Isabelle Ostermeyer. Preceding Arnold in death were 2 brothers, Norman Ostermeyer & Marvin Ostermeyer; 1 sister, Linda Buuck. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 28, 2014 in the Zion Lutheran Church with Rev. Phil Phifer officiating. Interment will follow in the Decatur Cemetery. Military Graveside Services for Arnie will be conducted by the American Legion Post #43 Color Guard. Friends will be received from 2-5 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2014 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, IN and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Preferred memorials are to Zion Lutheran Church-Decatur.
