Robert Gene Christener, 71 years old of Monroe, Indiana, passed away at 6:34 p.m. on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 in the Lutheran Hospital of Indiana located in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Robert was born on Wednesday, October 28, 1942 in Decatur, Indiana the son of the late John Christener Jr. and the late Evelyn Maxine (Bovine) Christener. He married Carolyn Sue Amstutz on April 15, 1989 in Adams County, Indiana and she survives. Robert was a member of the St. Luke Church; National Corriedale Association (sheep breeders) of Iowa; showed several Grand Champions at Mercer County and Van Wert County in Ohio. He was a graduate of Adams Central High School. Robert owned Christener's Custom Hauling, where he hauled livestock and farm-related materials; worked for Automatic Sprinkler for 29 1/2 years; and raised sheep. Surviving are his wife, Carolyn Sue Christener of Monroe, IN; daughter, Tina Jean (John) Sloan of Tampa, FL; daughter, Amy Jo (Scott) Ripley of Decatur, IN; step-son, Scott D. (Cyndee) Millington of Decatur, IN; sister, Carolyn Kae (Marvin) Taylor of Monroe, IN; sister, Marilyn Mae Schaadt of Monroe, IN; grandchildren: Micheal, Drew, Haley Ripley; step-grandchildren: Grant, Mahima, Edin, & maria Millington. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 2, 2014 in the St. Luke Church 4960 W. 100 N. Decatur, IN with Pastor MIke Wertenberger officiating. Interment will follow in the M.R.E. Cemetery in Berne, Indiana. Friends will be received from 12:00 NOON - 6:00 p.m. Sunday, June 1, 2014 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, IN and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Preferred memorials are to St. Luke's Church Building Fund.
