Donald R. Foster, 90 years old and a lifelong resident of Monroeville, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at Grey Stone Health & Rehabilitation located in Fort Wayne. He was born on Thursday, March 6, 1924 in Monroeville, Indiana the son of the late Frank Foster and the late Esther L. (Reynolds) Foster. Dick was a member of the St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Monroeville. He was also a former member of the Monroeville Lion's Club and a member of the American Welding Society. He was well known for his skillful engineering and mechanical craftsmanship. Dick independently founded and successfully operated his own business, Foster Fabricating & Design for 60 years in Monroeville, Indiana. He has been acknowledged on several occasions, such as being named Grand Marshal of the Monroeville Harvest Festival Parade, for his lifelong accomplishments and contributions to local business and commerce. Known for being humble, practical, and precise, Dick greatly enjoyed designing and fabricating custom machinery, playing the organ for his family and friends, taking his grandchildren to local fairs and tractor shows, creating handcrafted furniture and crafts, and helping his family and community out with projects both big and small. Dick will be remembered for his passionate, yet temperate character, and for the values and work ethic he has instilled in others. Surviving are his son, Mark A. (Carol J.) Foster of Fort Wayne; daughter, Cheryl L. (Karl) Hull of Fort Wayne; and sister, Lois L. Klinker of Monroeville. He is also survived by four grandsons, Matthew Foster; Shane (Denise) Hull; Greg (Ashley) Foster; & Kurtis Foster; and two great-grandsons, Cole Foster & Bristol Hull. Preceding Donald in death were three brothers, Dale L.; Clyde L.; & John W. Foster and an infant sister, Dessie Foster. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 14, 2014 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel in Monroeville. Interment will follow in the Monroeville Memorial Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, June 13 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel in Monroeville and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Saturday. Preferred memorials are to St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Heartland Hospice or Monroeville EMS.
