Hazel M. Hammons

Hazel M. Hammons, 93 years old of Bluffton, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at Ossian Health & Rehabilitation. She was born on Wednesday, November 24, 1920 in Union City, Indiana the daughter of the late Francis M. Birum and the late Daisy M. (Blankley) Birum. She married Dale Hammons on July 5, 1939 and he passed away on December 25, 2000. Hazel was a member of the First Baptist Church in Muncie, Indiana, where she served as Deaconess and Stephen Minister. Following the movements of her son, Hazel also attended the First United Methodist Church in Decatur, Indiana when she was a resident from 2004-2009. She was a graduate of Union City High School Class of 1938. Hazel retired from Maxon Corporation in 1987 as an executive secretary after 35 years of service. Surviving are her son, Terry (Martha) Hammons of Bluffton; grandson, Wayne D. Hammons of Grand Rapids, Michigan; great-granddaughter, Amber Hammons of Cicero, Indiana; great-great-granddaughter, Lilly Millikan of Cicero, Indiana; and several nieces & nephews. Preceding Hazel in death were a grandson, Danny Hammons and two sisters, Evaline Yohler & Mary Frazier. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 30, 2014 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Wayne Steury officiating. Interment will follow at the Garden of Memory in Muncie, Indiana. Friends will be received from 12 noon to 3 p.m., Sunday, June 29 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Monday. Preferred memorials are to Heart to Heart Hospice - 1385 N Baldwin Avenue, Marion, IN 46952-1913.
