Ward W. Chapman

Ward W. "Whitie" Chapman, 91 years old of Huntington, Indiana and formerly of Decatur, passed away on Monday, October 20, 2014 at Lutheran Hospital. He was born on Monday, October 15, 1923 in Monroeville, Indiana the son of the late Jay W. Chapman and the late Eva Z. (Simons) Chapman. He married Bernice M. Green on July 26, 1952 in Fort Wayne, Indiana and she preceded him in death on April 2, 2005. Whitie was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Decatur and the Eagles Lodge # 2653 of Decatur. He was a former member of Moose Lodge #1311 in Decatur. He was a graduate of New Haven High School and retired as the owner of the Hi Ho Inn in 1985 with 20 years of service. He was also a part-time farmer for many years. Surviving are his son, John W. (Denise) Chapman of Decatur; daughter, Connie L. (Clay) Emley of Huntington; sister, Katie Reavis of Seattle, WA; five grandchildren, Kelly (Terry) Gerber; Heather (Chris) Lytle; John (Lindsey) Hoffman; Jamie Dull; & Chad (Cassie) Dull; and five great-grandchildren, Nathan Gerber; Grant Gerber; Preston Hoffman; Morgan Hoffman; Hayley Dull. There are also two more great-grandchildren on the way. Preceding Ward in death were a brother and two sisters. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 25, 2014 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur. Interment will follow in the Decatur Cemetery. Friends will be received from 3 to 5 & 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, October 24 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Saturday. Preferred memorials are to Zion Lutheran Church.
