James T. "Pink" Aspy left this world to meet his Maker on April 18, 2015 at 7:55 a.m. in the peace of his home. He was born on April 25, 1934 to the late Gerald and Violet Aspy. In high school, he was a stand-out center for the Hoagland Wildcats. He married his high school sweetheart, Joyce C. Braun, on April 26, 1953. He enjoyed hard work, gardening, fishing, writing poetry, wood working, and the peace of nature. He was a born again Christian and from that point forward his life's passion was to serve the Lord and spread the word. He taught Sunday school, Bible studies, & AWANA's for many years and was an inspirational figure for generations of men, women, & children. He was an excellent singer and many have heard him boom praises to the Lord. Pinky loved to help people and for 43 years he operated his business, Aspy Tire, with honesty and integrity; making friends rather than customers. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Aspy of Hoagland; daughter, Cathy Copper of Roanoke; sons, Greg (Rose) Aspy of Hoagland & Pastor Mark (Angie) Aspy of Hart, MI; daughter-in-law, Devonna Aspy-Davis of New Haven; brothers, Bob & Ron Aspy; step-mother, Mearle Neireiter; half-brother, Rick Aspy; step-brother, Lyle Stults; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Aspy; grandson, Drew Aspy; and step-sister, Judy Jackson. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 22, 2015 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur with Pastor Todd Buckmaster and Pastor Mark Aspy officiating. Interment will follow in the Antioch Lutheran Cemetery in Hoagland. Family & friends will be received from 1 to 4 & 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Wednesday. Preferred memorials are to Hoagland Community Church, Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home, or Comfort Keepers.
