Walter C. Oetting, 88 years old of Fort Wayne, Indiana, passed away on Monday, April 27, 2015 at his residence. Walt was born on Sunday, April 17, 1927 in Ft. Wayne, Indiana the son of the late William Oetting and the late Luetta (Bohnke) Oetting. He married Lois M. Lynch on June 28, 1953 in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church-Ft. Wayne, Indiana and she survives. Walt was member of the Peace Lutheran Church-Ft. Wayne. Walt was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War, serving in the United States Army as a chief mechanic, being honorably discharged after attaining the rank of Sergeant. Walt was employed at International Harvester in Ft. Wayne and retired in 1982. Following his retirement from Harvester, Walt was a maintenance worker for Westland Mall in Ft. Wayne. Surviving are his wife, Lois M. Oetting of Ft. Wayne, IN; son, Michael (Debra) Oetting of Ossian, IN; son, Alan Oetting of Ft. Wayne, IN; sister, Ann Johnston of Ft. Wayne, IN; brother, Erven (Lois) Oetting of Hudson, IN; brother, Albert A. Oetting of Ft. Wayne, IN; 4 grandchildren: Jennifer Oetting, Krista Taylor, Ben Oetting, Scott Oetting; and 3 great-grandchildren: Kaidence Taylor, Noah Taylor, Bentley James Oetting. Preceding Walter in death were 2 brothers: William & Arthur Oetting. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 1, 2015 in the Peace Lutheran Church 4900 Fairfield Ave. Ft. Wayne, Indiana with Rev. Paul Spira officiating. Interment will follow in the Concordia Cemetery Gardens, Fort Wayne, IN with military graveside honors being conducted by the American Legion Post 43 Color Guard. Friends will be received from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, April 30, 2015 in the D. O. McCombs & Sons-Covington Knolls Chapel, 8325 Covington Road, Ft. Wayne, IN. There is also one hour of visitation prior to the service at the church on Friday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to Worship For Shut-Ins or Honor Flight NE Indiana or Wounded Warrior Project.
