Jerry Emenhiser, 72 years old of Monroeville, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, May 17, 2015 at his residence following a long battle with cancer. Jerry was born on September 11, 1942 in Hoagland, Indiana the son of the late Leroy Emenhiser and the Doris (Hege) Emenhiser (who survives). He married Jeanette Meyer on April 20, 1968 in St. Mary's Catholic Church-Avilla and she survives. Jerry was a member of the St. Rose Catholic Church-Monroeville. Jerry was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the United States Army. In addition to being a life-long farmer, Jerry was self-employed as owner/operator of Emenhiser Trenching in Monroeville. In addition to the numerous excavating jobs he completed in the course of his life, he was also a long-time gravedigger for many area cemeteries around Hoagland and Monroeville. He was formerly employed at Phelps-Dodge; Goodrich; Mid-West Tile & Concrete; and Parkview Hospital. Animals were an important part of Jerry's life...along with his father, they raised ostrich, llamas, ponies, mules, goats, and emus. Enjoying the outdoors was part of the life of a farmer. To that extent, Jerry also enjoyed fishing and the peace that it brought...no matter what he caught...or didn't catch. Surviving are his wife, Jeanette Emenhiser of Monroeville, IN; daughter, Stacey (Tim) Dealey of Convoy, OH; son, Jay (Sherri) Emenhiser of Monroe, IN; daughter, Sara (Brian) Sutter of Hoagland, IN; sister, Karen (Will) Schlemmer of Garrett, IN; 8 grandchildren: Nick Dealey; Zach Dealey; Chelsea Emenhiser; Cassidy Emenhiser; Cody Emenhiser; Caitlyn Emenhiser; Brooke Sutter; Taylor Sutter. A prayer service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 23, 2015 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel, Monroeville followed by a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday in the St. Rose Catholic Church -Monroeville with Father Dave Voors officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Rose Catholic Cemetery, Monroeville, IN. Graveside military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #420 and VFW of Monroeville. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, May 22, 2015 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel, 111 South Water St. Monroeville. A Rosary service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Friday in the funeral. Preferred memorials are to St. Rose Catholic School or Masses.
