F. Clair Carver, 100 years old of Monroe, Indiana, passed away on Monday, May 18, 2015 in the Adams Heritage located in Monroeville, Indiana. Clair was born on Saturday, March 27, 1915 in Adams County, Indiana the son of the late Lawrence Carver and the late Agnes (Longenberger) Carver. He married the late Marjorie Graham on February 9, 1941 in Bluffton, Indiana and she passed away on January 15, 2010. Clair was a member of the Salem United Methodist Church (now Salem Community Church) in Salem, IN where he served as trustee of the church and treasurer of the Mission Fund for years. He was a member of the American Legion Post #43 and the VFW #6236 of Decatur. Clair was a graduate of Pleasant Mills High School Class of 1933. Clair served in the United States Army during World War II from 1942-1945 and was deployed to the European Theater of Operations, serving under General George Patton in the Blue Ridge 80th Division in the 3rd Armored Division. Clair owned & operated the Salem Store from 1946-1977. He had also worked at International Harvester from 1966-1981; was the Blue Creek Township Trustee for 2 terms; also drove school bus for the Adams Central School District. Prior to marriage he operated a small trucking business, hauling sugar beets, and worked for Meshberger Stone until serving his country during World War II. Surviving are his daughter, Barbara L. Carver of New Haven, IN; son, David C. (Lois) Carver of Valparaiso, IN; grandson, Joshua Carver of Boston, MA; granddaughter, Cara (E.J.) Carver-Olson of Indianapolis, IN; 2 Great-Grandchildren: Lila Olson and Luke Olson. Preceding Clair in death were a daughter, Carolyn Carver; 3 sisters: Marcella Vining, Pauline Clark, & Betty Marie Carver. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 23, 2015 in the Salem Community Church 2140 S. Salem Rd. Monroe, Indiana with Pastor Jim Compton officiating. Interment will follow in the Tricker Cemetery, Monroe, Indiana. Military graveside services will be conducted by the American Legioin Post #43 Color Guard. Friends will be received from 2-5 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, May 22, 2015 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, Indiana and one hour prior to the service in the church on Saturday. Preferred memorials are to Salem Community Church.
