Carol Diane (Haflich) Castleman, 66 years old of Fort Wayne, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, May 23, 2015 in the Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home located in Fort Wayne after a long battle with cancer. Carol was born on Monday, March 21, 1949 in Fort Wayne, Indiana the daughter of the late Wendell D. Haflich and the late Marjorie M. (Reidenbach) Haflich. Carol attended The Chapel in Ft. Wayne. Carol was a graduate of the South Side High School Class of 1967 and following her graduation, she graduated from Purdue University-Ft. Wayne with an Associate's Degree in Mental Health. Carol volunteered at the United Arts Center both on and offstage during the 1990's with her son, Terry. It was during this time that he won an Anthony Award for his expertise...what a bonding experience it became for both of them. Carol enjoyed knitting & crocheting and was part of the cross stitching group at the "Stitch & Frame Shop" in Ft. Wayne. She also used her talents in knitting and crocheting at The Chapel as part of her service to the church. Carol enjoyed her Sheltie dogs, of which she had many over her lifetime. Carol's present dog, Laddie, is a certified Therapy Dog and they were a common sight at Lutheran Hospital and Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home in Ft. Wayne. Carol was also a homemaker. Surviving are David Castleman of Indianapolis, IN and a son, Terry S. Castleman of Ft. Wayne, IN. Preceding Carol in death was her daughter, Michelle Renee Castleman, who passed away on April 18, 1981 at the age of 3 years, and her Sheltie dogs, Shelly & Brandy. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, May 28, 2015 in the The Chapel, 2505 W. Hamilton Rd. South, Fort Wayne, Indiana with Rev. Gary Endersby officiating. Interment will follow in the Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne, Indiana. Friends will be received from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2015 in The Chapel, 2505 W. Hamilton Rd. South, Fort Wayne, Indiana and one hour prior to services Thursday also at The Chapel. Preferred memorials are to Riley Children's Hospital in lieu of Flowers.
