Herman J. Rumschlag, 95 years old of Decatur, Indiana passed away Thursday, July 2, 2015 at Adams Woodcrest in Decatur where he had resided for the past five years. He was born on April 30, 1920 in Adams County, Indiana to the late Lewis H. Rumschlag and the late Clara (Heimann) Rumschlag. He married Agnes A. Schmit on November 9, 1946 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Bryant, Indiana. Herman served his country in the United States Army during WWII from 1942 to 1945. He was a member of the St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Decatur; Knights of Columbus Lodge; American Legion Post #43; DAV; and the Central Soya Quarter Century Club. He retired in 1982 from Central Soya in Decatur with 35 years of service. Surviving are his wife, Agnes A. Rumschlag of Decatur; son, Kenneth J. (Nancy) Rumschlag of Delphos, OH; son, Ronald A. (Alice) Rumschlag of Fort Wayne; son Larry E. (Victoria) Rumschlag of Decatur; daughter-in-law, Marta Rumschlag of Decatur; four sisters, Esther (Leonard) Rosenbeck of Coldwater, OH; Catherine Rumschlag of Big Stone Gap, W.V.; Jean Rumschlag of Elm Grove, WI; & Monica (Clifford) Wyss of Coldwater, MI; three brothers, Cletus (Kathleen) Rumschlag of Fort Wayne; Louis (Loretta) Rumschlag of Decatur; & Tom Rumschlag of Fort Wayne. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Steve Rumschlag; two grandchildren, Todd & Scott Rumschlag; a great-grandson, Elliot Rumschlag; a daughter-in-law, Debra Rumschlag; five sisters, Margaret Becker; Dorothy Rumschlag; Delores Schmit; Rita Girard & Sr. Clare Anne Rumschlag; and two brothers, Jerome Rumschlag & Dennis Rumschlag. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 6, 2015 at the St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Decatur with Fr. Dave Voors officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery with Military Graveside Honors to be conducted by the American Legion Post #43 of Decatur. Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur and one hour prior to the Mass on Monday at the church. Visitation is also from 12:00 - 1:00 p.m. Sunday, July 5, 2015 in the Woodcrest Porter Auditorium A Rosary service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Preferred memorials are Masses or Family LifeCare in Berne.
