Waynard L. Habegger

Waynard L. Habegger, 87 years old of Decatur, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, July 26, 2015 at Adams Woodcrest. He was born on Monday, May 28, 1928 in Berne, Indiana the son of the late Robert Habegger and the late Barbara (Biberstine) Habegger. He married Geraldine Gaskill on January 9, 1954 and she preceded him in death on October 28, 2005. On March 14, 2015 he married Laverne (Settles) Thomas. Waynard attended Grace Fellowship Church in Decatur. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post #43; Moose Lodge #1311; VFW #6236; and Eagles Lodge #2653. Waynard was a graduate of Decatur High School. He retired in 1985 as the assistant superintendent at Decatur Cemetery. He had worked from 1955 to 1983 at Navistar (International Harvester) in Fort Wayne. He has also served on the Decatur Cemetery Board since 1988. Surviving are his wife, Laverne Habegger of Decatur; daughter, Karen Sue Walker of Kokomo; daughter, Susan Kay Saine of Fort Wayne; daughter, Joyce Ann Bohnke of Ohio City, OH; daughter, Joyella Lynn (Richie Guerra) Habegger of Decatur; daughter, Lois Landers of Decatur; son, Charles Wayne Habegger of Westville, IN; son, Kerry Lee (Colleen) Koeneman of Valdosta, GA; 20 grandchildren; and 43 great-grandchildren. Preceding Waynard in death were three sisters, Evelyn Myers; Cordella Hamrick; and Deloris McCagg; and a brother, Vernell Habegger. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 29, 2015 in the Grace Fellowship Church with Pastor Dan York officiating. Interment will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Convoy, Ohio. Friends will be received from 2 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, July 28 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. A Moose Memorial Service will be held at 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Preferred memorials are to the family.
