Thomas Lee Aumann, 66 years old of Decatur, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home in Fort Wayne following a lengthy illness. He was born on Thursday, December 9, 1948 in Decatur, Indiana the son of Lester and Evelyn (Thieme) Aumann. His parents preceded him in death. Tom was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church, Bingen, where he had been a longtime treasurer of the church and a member of the St. John Men's Club. He was a graduate of the Monmouth High School Class of 1966 and served his country in the United States Army in Germany during the Vietnam War. Tom had been engaged in farming and carpentry (working with his father, Lester Aumann) until a farm accident prevented him from continuing. Following this accident, he was employed as a tool & die engineer for Decatur Wire-Die, retiring in 2000. He loved IU basketball, collecting tractors, and creating various custom wood projects for people. He lived for his children and grandchildren. As time moved on, sporting events and family time together were extremely important to Tom. Even though he was physically limited by the accident that occurred in 1980, he still enjoyed going out and looking at the family farm and nature. When he was able, he customized his farm tractor to enable him to gain access to the cab and operate it on the farm. A card player for many years with his family and friends, Euchre and Pedro were favorites. Survivors include his son, Jeremy (Lisa) Aumann of Cincinnati, OH; daughter, Kellie (Nash) Hadi of Fort Wayne; son, Brad Aumann of Dallas, TX; sister, Kayleen "Kay" (Rick) Ellinger of Greensburg, IN; and sister, Janice (Tim) Grover of Decatur. He was also survived by four grandchildren, Nola Hadi; Nash Hadi Jr.; Emma Aumann; and Josh Aumann. Preceding Tom in death were a son, David Aumann and two brothers, Rick & Tim Aumann in 1967. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 26, 2015 in the St. John Lutheran Church, Bingen with Pastor Peter Brock officiating. Interment will follow in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Bingen. Friends will be received from 2 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Preferred memorials are to St. John Lutheran Church, Bingen 175th Anniversary Tanzania Mission Fund or National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
