Gery R. Girod, 76 years old of Decatur, IN, passed away on Friday, January 8, 2016 at Adams Memorial Hospital.

He was born on Tuesday, August 15, 1939 in Adams County, Indiana the son of the late Glen E. Girod and the late Irene M. (Peck) Giod. He married Carol J. Meyer on April 22, 1961 at the Salem United Church of Christ in Magley.

Gery served in the Army National Guard of Indiana from 1957 to 1963.

He was a lifelong member of Salem United Church of Christ in Magley where he served as a deacon, bell ringer, and custodian. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge #1311 in Decatur and the American Legion Post #43 in Decatur.

Gery was a 1957 graduate of Monmouth High School. He was employed at Central Soya during harvest season in 1957 and then was employed at HWI for 18 years in New Haven. In 1975, he became a full time dairy farmer.

He was an Indianapolis Colt's fan and farming and livestock were his passions.

Surviving are his wife, Carol J. Girod of Decatur, IN; son, Allen (Mary) Girod of Stanley, VA; son, Dan (Amy) Girod of Decatur, IN; son, Ed (Sandy) Girod of Decatur, IN; son, Fred Girod of Decatur, IN; son, Brad (Paula) Girod of Decatur, IN; son, Howie (Deb) Girod of Decatur, IN; sister, Nyla (Richard) Johnson of Decatur, IN; brother, Kent (Charlsie) Girod of Decatur, IN; brother, Ron (Susan) Girod of Ossian, IN; sister-in-law, Carolyn Girod of Monroe, IN; and Carol's brother, Stephen (Marilyn) Meyer of Wren, OH. He also survived by 17 grandchildren; Anthony (Misty) Girod; Chris (Ariel) Girod; Ben (Natalie) Girod; Staci (Josh) Heck; Stephanie (Matt) Simon; Sheila Marbaugh; Samantha Girod; Nicholas (fiancee, Lindsey McCoy) Girod; Micah Girod; Blake Girod; Jacob Girod; Dee Girod; Thomas Girod; Isaac Girod; Timothy Girod; Rachel Girod; and Gracie Girod and 12 great-grandchildren, Wyatt Girod; Amelia Girod; Kayley Lothridge; Kass Lothridge; Bentley Girod; Jamison Girod; Elizabeth Heck; Derek Simon; Allie Simon; Bailey Marbaugh; Carly Marbaugh; and Chloe Marbaugh.

Preceding Gery in death were a brother, Arno C. Girod; a grandson, Rick Girod; and Carol's sister and her husband, Diann & Phil McBride.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at the Salem United Church of Christ in Magley with Pastor Steve Hildebrand officiating. Interment will follow in the Salem United Church of Christ Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, January 10 and 1 to 4 and 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, January 11, 2015 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.

Preferred memorials are to Salem United Church of Christ or Rick's Memorial Scholarship through A.C.C.F.
