Alvin W. "Lefty" Myers, 92 years old of Fort Wayne, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at Heritage Park in Fort Wayne.
He was born on Thursday, June 28, 1923 in Monroeville, Indiana the son of the late Orren Myers and the late Cora (Sweeney) Myers. He married Juanita Gustin on February 25, 1945 in Monroeville, Indiana and she preceded him in death on July 13, 2005.
Lefty was a member of Monroeville United Methodist Church and the IBEW Local Union #1549.
He was a graduate of Convoy High School in 1942 and retired in 1986 from Phelps Dodge with 31 years of service. Prior to his work at Phelps Dodge, he was a farmer and after retirement he worked as a greeter at Walmart.
Surviving are his son, Stanley W. (Janice) Myers of Monroeville; daughter, Monica (Allen) Jaeger of Milwaukee, WI; son, Paul (Sarah Imbody) Myers of Harlan, IN; son, Harold "Joe" (Sonya) Myers of Hamilton, IN; daughter, Marsha (Dennis) Dawson of New Haven; 16 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.
Preceding Alvin in death were a daughter, Pamela Myers; a sister, Greta Sheets; and a brother, Melvin Myers.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 16, 2016 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel in Monroeville with Pastor Mark Walus officiating. Interment will follow in the Monroeville Memorial Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday, January 15 in the Zwick &Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel in Monroeville and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Saturday.
Preferred memorials are to Monroeville EMS or Monroeville Fire Department.
