James R. Pettibone, 83 years old of Decatur, Indiana, passed away on Monday, January 18, 2016 at his residence.
Jim was born on September 19, 1932 in Ossian, Indiana the son of the late Frederick Pettibone and the late Maude (Cowley) Pettibone.
Jim was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Decatur. Jim was also a member of the Poe Volunteer Fire Dept.
Jim served his country in the United States Army during the period of the Korean War. He was honorably discharged after attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Jim had been employed as a maintenance mechanic at Edy's Ice Cream for 10 years. Prior to his employment at Edy's, Jim had been employed at Peter Eckrich for 13 years; Roman Meal in Decatur for 13 years; and at Decatur Wire Die for several years. In his spare time, Jim enjoyed reading mysteries and other novels. In his younger years, Jim greatly enjoyed farming with his father-in-law and also playing fastpitch softball for many years. Other activities Jim enjoyed included fishing, hunting, bowling, golfing, and watching his baseball team...the Detroit Tigers.
Surviving are his daughter, Linda Brandenburg of Newark, OH; daughter, Cindy (Brad) Wilson of Yoder, IN; son, Robert J. (Julie) Pettibone of Ft. Wayne, IN; grandson, Zachary Brandenburg of Columbus, OH; granddaughter, Shaelynn Pettibone of Ft. Wayne, IN; granddaughter, Gwenndolynn Pettibone of Ft. Wayne, IN; great-grandson, Mason Lee Brandenburg.
Preceding James in death were 3 brothers: Harry, Jerry, David Pettibone.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 21, 2016 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home with Rev. Ralph Klinker officiating. Interment will follow in the Williamsport Cemetery, Poe, IN.
Military graveside services will be conducted by the American Legion Post 43 Color Guard.
Friends will be received from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, January 20, 2016 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, IN and one hour prior to services Thursday at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials are to A.C.C.F. - Cancer Fund; or Visiting Nurse & Hospice - Ft. Wayne.
