Walter J. "Bud" Gremaux, 94 years old of Monroeville, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at his residence.
Walter was born on October 15, 1921 in Allen County, Indiana the son of the late Julian C. Gremaux and the late Eleanor A. (Voirol) Gremaux. He married Mary C. Black on May 10, 1947 and she preceded him in death on July 24, 2001.
He was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church in Monroeville where he was a former usher and Eucharistic Minister. He was a member of the American Legion Post #420 for over 50 years; the VFW Post #10205 where he was a former chaplain for many years; the K of C #864; and the Carpenter's Local 232 for over 50 years.
Walter served his country in the United States Army during World War II where he was stationed on the islands of Kiska and Attu in the Aleutian Islands which are part of Alaska. They were American islands that were occupied by the Japanese during World War II.
He was a carpenter, starting his apprenticeship with Everett Ellerman & following seven years he began working for Schinnerer & Truemper & Co., which spanned 18 years of service. Following this, he retired after 15 years of employment with Michael Kinder...a career in carpentry which spanned over 50 years.
Surviving are his daughter, Linda Sherman of Fort Wayne; daughter, Connie J. (Tim) Werling of Fort Wayne; daughter, Melanie S. Egri of New Haven; daughter, Kay Gremaux of Fort Wayne; daughter, Rita L. Gremaux of Monroeville; son, Steven W. (Linda) Gremaux of Woodburn; son, Mark S. (Marsha) Gremaux of Hoagland; son, Matthew K. (Teri) Gremaux of Fort Wayne; brother, Arnold (Charlene) Gremaux of Corunna; brother, Lloyd (Nancy) Gremaux of New Haven; nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter.
Preceding Walter in death were four sisters, Veronica Harkenrider; Elsie Snyder; Eleanor Kelble; Dorothy Gray; and a brother, Joseph Gremaux.
A prayer service will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 12, 2016 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel in Monroeville followed by a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in the St. Rose Catholic Church in Monroeville with Father Lourdino Fernandes officiating.
Interment will follow in the St. Louis Besancon Catholic Cemetery in New Haven with Military graveside services to be conducted by the American Legion Post #420 and VFW Post #10205 Color Guards.
Friends will be received from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 11, 2016 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel in Monroeville . A Rosary service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
Preferred memorials are to Masses to the church; St. Rose Catholic School; or Family LifeCare.
