Carl G. Salway, Sr., 77 years old of Fort Wayne, Indiana, passed away on Friday, May 27, 2016 at his residence.
He was born on Wednesday, August 17, 1938 in Monroeville, Indiana the son of the late George H. Salway and the late Mary E. (Bailey) Salway. He married Patricia E. Roddel on February 6, 1960 in Fort Wayne and she preceded him in death on February 6, 2016.
Carl served his country in the United States Marines from 1956 to 1959.
He retired from VMC Trucking in the mid 1990's and had previously been employed by International Harvester. He was a former member of the UAW #2357.
Surviving are his daughter, Kathy Schott of Yoder, IN; daughter, Diedra Partin of Williamsburg, KY; son, Carl G. (Allision) Salway, Jr. of South Windsor, CT; daughter, Ellen (Michael) Hobkirk of Fort Wayne, IN; daughter, Lesley (Kevin) Matuska of Fort Wayne, IN; son, Monte (Roberta) Salway of Carmel, IN; brother, John H. Salway of Monroeville, IN; sister, Barbara Bleeke of Fort Wayne, IN; sister, Debra Salway of Fremont, IN; and brother-in-law, A. LeRoy (Sharon) Roddel of Fort Wayne, IN. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, Christy (Jeff) Buuck; Wolffgang Partin; Phalicia & (Alex Bolton) Partin; Jason (Kristina) Firkins; Courtney & (Alan Bleakley) Salway; Carl George (Haley) Salway III; Sean Salway; Angela Hobkirk; Matthew Hobkirk; Andrea (Mike) Akers; Nicholas (Leah) Matuska; Jeffrey (Kimberly) Matuska; Bradley Matuska; Olivia (Caleb) Schane; Chloe & (Byron Wagers) Salway; 12 great-randchildren, Elizabeth Buuck; Thomas Buuck; Olivia Buuck; Rachel Firkins; Ethan Firkins; Carson Matuska; Amelia Matuska; Eren Bolton; Kira Partin; Annabell Schane; Levi Schane; & Oliver Schane; and several nieces & nephews and great-nieces & nephews.
Carl was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Danny Partin; a sister-in-law, Jean Ann Salway; and brother-in-law, Ronald Bleeke.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 3, 2016 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel in Monroeville with Rev. Ralph Klinker officiating.
Interment will be in the Covington Memorial Gardens in Fort Wayne.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, June 2 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel in Monroeville .
Preferred memorials are to Heartland Hospice in Fort Wayne.
