Alan L. Miller, 78 years old of Decatur, Ind., passed away on Friday, June 10, 2016 at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
He was born on Monday, September 27, 1937 in Decatur, Ind. the son of the late Clarence "Dutch" Miller and the late Zeffie E. (LaTurner) Miller Staub. He married Virginia Vetter on July 19, 1958 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. They were married by Virginia's father, Rev. W.C. Vetter.
Alan was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Decatur where he has served as a deacon and a trustee. He was a member of the National Dutch Club and was a longtime slow pitch pitcher, coach, & umpire. He was inducted into the Decatur Slow Pitch Hall of Fame. Alan was an avid outdoorsman and operated Miller and Sons Fur since 1977.
He retired from Navistar in Fort Wayne with 40 years of service.
Surviving are his wife, Virginia Miller of Decatur; daughter, LeAnn (Rickey) Thieme of Decatur; son, Matthew (Angela) Miller of Leo; and siblings, Carole (LeRoy) Martin; Steve (Diane) Miller; Becky (Darwin) Pierstorff; Joe (Paula) Miller; & Murilene (Dennis) Grote; all of Decatur. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Stephanie (Brian) Clemons; Crystal Thieme; Trisha Gose; Karissa Miller; Danae Miller & Kaeden Miller; and three great-grandchildren, Jasmine, Evie, & Dylan Clemons.
Preceding Alan in death were a son, Bradley Alan Miller, on December 26, 1978 and a great-granddaughter, Paige Clemons.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Pastor David Koeneman officiating. Burial will follow in the Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, June 14 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur and from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Wednesday at the church.
