Charles Parks "Porky" Holt, 91 years old of Decatur, Ind., passed away on Monday, June 13, 2016 at Adams Woodcrest Extended Care Unit where he had been a patient for three weeks.
He was born on Friday, July 11, 1924 in Wartrace, Tennessee the son of the late Charles A. Holt and the late Lida Sue (Parks) Holt. He married Mary Lou Bullock on April 17, 1949 in Kokomo, Indiana.
Porky was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. He was drafted in 1943 and was discharged in 1946 after attaining the rank of Sergeant.
He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church - Flatrock in rural Monroeville. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 330 in New Haven.
Porky was a school teacher and basketball coach for many years. He graduated from New Haven High School in 1942. Following his high school graduation, he attended Ball State University (Teachers College) and in 1949 graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Secondary Education. He also earned his Master's Degree from Ball State. Porky taught at Monmouth High School from 1950 - 1957; Winchester High School from 1957 - 1958; South Side High School from 1958 - 1974; and Motlow Community College from 1974 - 1975. Following his career in teaching, Porky and his wife operated the Holt Athletic Goods in Fort Wayne until 1991.
Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Mary Lou Holt of Decatur; son, Ronnie L. (Cindy) Holt of Decatur; son, Dr. Larry C. (Randy Smith) Holt of Cocoa Beach, FL; son, Michael P. (Mary) Holt of Lynchburg, TN; and brother, Stanley W. Holt of Pleasanton, TX. He is also survived by six grandchilren, Jesse (Kristin) Holt; Casey (Maybelle) Holt; Jamie (Thomas) Salima; Jenny (Justin) Beaulieu; Josh (Laura) Holt; & Zach Holt; and nine great-grandchildren, Joley Beaulieu; Jett Beaulieu; Logan Holt; Kylee Holt; Austin Holt; Faye Holt; Alexa Holt; Cayla Holt; & Peyton Holt.
Preceding Charles in death were a son, Steve P. Holt in 1997 and two sisters, Betty Kline-Holt and Shirley K. Kaye.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, June 18, 2016 in the St. John Lutheran Church, Flatrock with Rev. Douglas Christian officiating. Interment will follow in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery Flatrock.
Friends will be received from 2 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, June 17 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
