Edgar Johann Wilhelm Carl Rekeweg, 87 years old of Ossian, Ind., passed away on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at Adams Woodcrest. He was born on Friday, April 5, 1929 in Woodburn, Ind. the son of the late William Rekeweg and the late Louise (Kammeyer) Rekeweg. He married Rosella Mae Werling on October 6, 1951 in St. Paul Lutheran Church in Preble and she preceded him in death on October 24, 2014. Edgar was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ossian where he served as a trustee, elder, served on the Building Committee, was a choir member, and served as a Christian Fellowship Officer. He enjoyed the Men's Church Bowling League and basketball. He was also a member of the Lutheran Laymen's League (LLL). He was a lifelong farmer and continued with this passion by gardening. Surviving are his daughter, Marsha (Rev. Thomas) Zimmerman of Fort Wayne; daughter, Shirley (Robert) Brown of Decatur; son, Stanley Rekeweg of Ossian; daughter, Lisa (Anthony) Austin of Huntington; brother, Richard (Betty) Rekeweg of Fort Wayne; sister, Margaret (Loren) Gerber of Stevensville, MI; sister, Bernice(Robert) Mock of Fort Wayne; and sister-in-law, Lorene Rekeweg of Decatur. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Rev. Luke Zimmerman; Mark Zimmerman; Rev. John Zimmerman; Kristin (Steven) Carroll; Joshua Brown; Jason (Danielle) Rekeweg; Justin Rekeweg; Kara (Brett) Smith; & Cameron Austin and eight great-grandchildren, Jack Carroll; Owen Carroll; James Carroll; Ethan George; Grahm Vanover; Ally Smith; Avery Smith; & Matthew Rekeweg. Edgar was preceded in death by five sisters, Elsie Rekeweg; Luella Gerling; Eldora Scheuler; Milda Steele; and Gerda Hudgens; and five brothers, Herman Rekeweg; Ernst Rekeweg; Alfred Rekeweg; Lawrence Rekeweg; and Adelbert Rekeweg. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ossian with Rev. Randall Wurschmidt officiating. Interment will follow in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, June 20 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Preferred memorials are to Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ossian; Worship for Shut-Ins; or Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne.
