Jeffrey M. "Jeff" Borchers, 64 years old of Decatur, IN, passed away on Monday, August 8, 2016 at 11:55 p.m. in the Hospice Home located in Fort Wayne following a 6 ½ year battle with Multiple Myeloma. Jeff wanted to show others how to live with cancer and die with Christ.
He was born on Wednesday, June 4, 1952 in Lima, Ohio. Jeff was the son of the late James R. Borchers and Wanda G. (Priddy) Borchers. He was united in marriage with Rene Moore on August 9, 1975 in Decatur, IN.
He was a member of Decatur Church of God where he taught Sunday school, served on the Board of Finance & Equipment, and was involved in the Work Trip Ministry and the L-I-V-E Ministry. Jeff enjoyed yard work, farming, tinkering, and helping others. However, being a Poppy was his most favorite calling. Jeff never knew a stranger and loved sharing his faith with anyone who would listen.
Jeff was a 1970 graduate of Bellmont High School and had attended Huntington College. He worked at All American Homes, Fleetwood, and most recently as the maintenance director at Lutheran Life Villages in Fort Wayne. He also volunteered at Steele Farms.
Surviving are his wife, Rene Borchers of Decatur, IN; daughter, Emily (Marshall) Walters of Concord, NC; daughter, Erin (Joel) Minnich of Noblesville, IN; mother, Wanda Borchers of Decatur, IN; sister, Judy (Barry) Secaur of Decatur, IN; and four Grandchildren Addison Minnich(8), Alex Walters(7), Ethan Minnich(6), and Cole Walters(5).
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 13, 2016 at the Church of God -Decatur with Joel Minnich officiating.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 5-8 p.m. Friday, August 12 at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur and one hour prior to the service at the Decatur Church of God.
