E. Marcile Martin

Marcile Martin, 94 years old and a lifelong resident of Decatur who resided at Adams Woodcrest passed away on Sunday, October 23, 2016 at Adams Woodcrest.

She was born on Sunday, October 15, 1922 in Decatur, Indiana the daughter of the late Frederick Christener and the late Flona (Davidson) Christener. She married Rev. Sylvester Martin on September 7, 1941 at the Nuttman Avenue United Brethren in Christ Church in Decatur and he preceded her in death on February 19, 2010.

Marcile was a longtime member of the Decatur United Brethren in Christ Church where her husband had served as pastor from 1961 to 1984 and was currently a member of Cornerstone Community Church.

She was a 1941 graduate of Decatur High School. Marcile was employed for 23 years at Decatur Industries where she worked in the office and was also a homemaker and minister's wife. She also worked at Council on Aging in Decatur.

Surviving are her son, Lowell (Judy) Martin of Decatur, IN; daughter-in-law, Deb Martin of Roanoke, IN; five grandchildren, Melanie (Joe) Wolpert; Matt (Dee Ann) Martin; Alyson (Jonathan) Wolf; Arin (Chris) Durbin; & Jessah (Jeremy) Porter; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Preceding Marcile in death were a son, Halden Martin and a brother, Robert Christener.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 27, 2016 at the Cornerstone Community Church with Pastor Harold Klinker officiating. Interment will follow in the Decatur Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 2 to 3 p.m., Wednesday, October 26 at Woodcrest Chapel and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur . Visitation is also one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.

Preferred memorials are to Hope Chest or Kid's First Child Care Ministry.
