Violet M. Bohnke

Violet M. Bohnke , 86 years old of Monroeville, IN, passed away on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at her residence.

She was born on Thursday, July 17, 1930 in Allen County, Indiana the daughter of the late Herbert Poehler and the late Elda (Schlaudroff) Poehler. She married Donald F. Bohnke on August 23, 1952 and he preceded her in death on May 16, 1995.

Violet was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Flatrock; a former member of the Ladies Aid; a long time greeter; and along with her husband was records keeper for Flatrock Cemetery for many years. She was also a 50 year member of the Extension Homemaker's Club (Madison Cheerful Workers). She enjoyed dancing, traveling, her family, and her grandchildren. .

She was a graduate of Elmhurst High School in 1948. She had worked for Sunshine Stores (division of Allied Mills) from 1948 to 1952. After Violet married Don, they started their own business, Bohnke Seed Service, which was in business for over 40 years. She was also a substitute bus driver for East Allen County Schools for 20 years and an independent distributor for the Fuller Brush Company for over 25 years. Violet had also worked other temporary jobs and had worked for 12 years at Indiana Auto Auction in the kitchen and dining hall. .

Surviving are her son, Larry (Kathy) Bohnke of Monroeville, IN; son, Dean Bohnke of Monroeville, IN; son-in-law, Don Gresley of Hoagland, IN; two grandchildren, Kelly (Nathan) Hyde of Fishers, IN and Matthew Gresley of Indianapolis, IN; and a great-grandchild, Jamison Hyde.

Preceding Violet in death was a daughter, Carol Ann Gresley.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 11, 2017 in the St. John Lutheran Church, Flatrock with Rev. Douglas Christian officiating. Interment will follow in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Flatrock.

Friends will be received from 3:30 to 8 p.m., Friday, March 10 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel in Monroeville and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday .

Preferred memorials are to St. John Lutheran Church, Flatrock.
