She was born on Tuesday, July 17, 1923 in Jay County, Indiana the daughter of the late Benjamin J. Schmit and the late Bertha (Freund) Schmit. She married Herman J. Rumschlag on November 9, 1946 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Bryant, Indiana and he preceded her in death on July 2, 2015.
Agnes was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Decatur and the Women of St. Mary's.
She retired in 1986 from Decatur Industries with 16 years of service.
Surviving are her son, Kenneth J. (Nancy) Rumschlag of Delphos, OH; son, Ronald A. (Alice) Rumschlag of Fort Wayne, IN; son, Larry E. (Victoria) Rumschlag of Decatur, IN; daughter-in-law, Marta Rumschlag of Decatur, IN; 18 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchilden; and one great-great-granddaughter.
Preceding Agnes in death were a son, Steve Rumschlag; two grandchildren, Todd & Scott Rumschlag; a great-grandson, Elliott Rumschlag; a daughter-in-law, Deborah Rumschlag; two sisters, Mildred Eischen and Esther May; and three brothers, Gilbert, Carl & John Schmit.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 22, 2017 at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church with Fr. Bob J. Lengerich officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Decatur.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 21 at Woodcrest Porter Auditorium with a 10:00 a.m. reciting of the Rosary. Visitation also from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur and one hour prior to the Mass at St. Mary's Parish Hall on Saturday .
Preferred memorials are Masses; St. Jude Children's Hospital; or Family LifeCare.
