Harold R. Ladd

Harold R. Ladd , 86, of Ossian, Indiana and former resident of Willshire, Ohio passed away Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at Adams Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. His death was unexpected.

He was born on Thursday, September 18, 1930 in Delphos, Ohio the son of the late Melvin Ladd and the late Loa (Matson) Ladd. He married Marcia M. Stopher on June 19, 1966 in Delphos, Ohio and she survives after 51 years of marriage!

Harold was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean War.

He was a self - employed barber in Willshire, Ohio for ten years until he sold the business and joined his wife in the operation of the Village Restaurant in Willshire. They operated the business together for 15 years before selling it. Following the sale of the restaurant, Harold and Marcia moved to Fort Wayne and he became a maintenance man for Embassy Apartments.

Harold attended the Zanesville United Brethren Church. He was a lifetime member of the Delphos VFW Post 3035 and American Legion Post #268. During his time in the VFW, Harold was the District #2 Commander.

Survivors include his wife, Marcia M. Ladd of Ossian, IN; daughter, Carla (Wally) Mesing of Decatur, IN; two grandsons, Mark Mesing & Paul (fiancé, Sara Williamson) Mesing, & brother, Gerald (Shirley) Ladd of Landeck, OH.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Mildred Giesken; Louise Lear; & Delores Peters; & two brothers, Earl Ladd and Carl "Cocky" Ladd.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 21, 2017 at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur with Rev. Tom Datema officiating. Interment will follow in the Walnut Grove Cemetery in Delphos, Ohio with Military Graveside Services to be conducted by the Delphos VFW Post #3035.

Friends will be received from 1 to 3 & 4 to 6 p.m., Sunday, August 20 at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur & one hour prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials are to Adams County 4 - H or the Willshire Community Park.
