Jerrel “Jerry” Jones , 72, of Decatur, Indiana passed away Monday, August 28, 2017 at Genesis Healthcare in New Haven. His death followed a brief illness and was unexpected.
He was born on Thursday, December 7, 1944 in Malvern, Arkansas the son of J. C. and Ione (Folsom) Jones. He married Kathleen Bleeke on April 20, 1968 at Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Jerry was a veteran of the United States Air Force and served his country as a B-52 Crew Chief during the Vietnam War.
He was employed at General Electric in Decatur as a machinist until they closed and then transferred to the Fort Wayne Campus.
Jerry was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Decatur and the American Legion Post #43 in Decatur.
Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Jones of Decatur; daughter, Rebecca (Bill) Fish of Clarksville, TN; daughter, Amy (Kent) McBarnes of Decatur; sister, JoAnn (Bill) Baumann of Decatur; and two grandchildren, Megan & Logan McBarnes.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 2, 2017 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Decatur with Pastor David Koeneman officiating. Interment will follow at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery with Military Graveside Services by the American Legion Post #43 Color Guard.
Friends will be received from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, September 1 at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday .
