Gertrude C. Miller , 108, of Fort Wayne, IN passed away in the early morning hours of Saturday, September 2, 2017 at Lutheran Life Villages in Fort Wayne. She was a resident of Decatur for 65 years before moving to Fort Wayne.
She was born on Monday, August 9, 1909 in Fort Wayne, Indiana the daughter of the late Charles Reffelt and the late Mary (Hecke) Reffelt. She was united in marriage to Arthur J. Miller and he preceded her in death on February 27, 1978.
In her younger years, Gertrude worked at Wayne Candy Company in Fort Wayne. After moving to Decatur, she began working for Central Sugar Company before transitioning to Wayne Novelty. Most recently, Gertrude worked at Psi Iota Xi Sorority Thrift Store in Decatur for several years as a manager.
Gertrude was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, as well as the Rosary Society. She had been a member of the Women of the Moose since 1961. She also sang with the Sweet Adeline's.
Survivors include her grandson, Matt (Sue) Berghoff of Midland, MI; grandson, Mark (Mona) Berghoff of Fort Wayne, IN; grandson, Mike (Mary) Berghoff of Fort Wayne, IN; granddaughter, Ann Reisinger of Westfield, IN; grandson, Pat (Cathy) Berghoff of Noblesville, IN; 14 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great grandchildren.
Gertrude was preceded in death by a daughter, Rose Ellen Berghoff, in 1993; and a son-in-law Robert Berghoff, in 2017.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Decatur with Father Bob Lengerich officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Decatur.
Friends will be received one hour prior to the services at church Wednesday .
Preferred memorials can be made to Masses or Saint Mary's Soup Kitchen in Fort Wayne.
