Few people have touched so many lives, and fewer still have given so much of themselves to others.
Larry “Moe” Davis of Wren, passed away Thursday, Sept. 28, 2017 at Mystic Acres surrounded by his loving family. He was born Feb. 13, 1936 to Rose (Moser) and Dale Davis, and married his high school sweetheart, Janet Ruth Pence, on Oct. 9, 1955. He opened Davis Hair Styles in 1965 where he worked until his retirement in 2006.
Moe and Janet raised 4 children together; Jeff (Carrie); Laura; Jack (Monica); and James “Jamey”. He was adored by his 7 grandchildren; Joe; Kristen; Jay; and Kim Davis; Natalie (Aaron) Cline; Nick (Siobhan) Marquardt; and Payton (Travis) Hamrick, as well as 6 great-grandchildren; Emma, McKinley, Hadley, Ryder, Breccan and Baby Hamrick (arriving next month). He was preceded in death by his parents, step-father Glen Weaver, son Jamey, brother Bob, and half-brother John Fredrick.
Moe loved his family, friends, and community and gave freely of himself to all. No matter what project he got into he always gave 110%, and if someone else wasn’t quite up to par he’d give 120%. Whether it was coaching a game of baseball, hanging the town’s Christmas lights, or helping a friend roof a house, you could always count on Moe to be right in the thick of things - pitcher’s glove, ladder, or hammer in hand. He was involved in just about every local community organization, and anyone who knew Moe has at least one favorite story to tell. Many people remember him as their baseball coach and for his many years of service to the Wren Ballpark Association. Some remember him as the founder of the Wren Community Chest, or as the groundskeeper for Wrenway Park. Some recall his days as the township clerk while others think back to his involvement in the Crestview Booster Club. One of Moe’s favorite pass-times was coon hunting which makes even others remember him as a founding member and his many active years in the Birdville Cooners.
Moe touched many lives in his 81 years and leaves a legacy of wonderful memories that will be shared today and for many years to come.
