Verlin Bultemeier, 88, of New Haven, Indiana passed away Wednesday evening, October 25, 2017 at Heritage Park in Fort Wayne.
He was born on Tuesday, February 26, 1929 in Decatur, Indiana the son of Oscar Bultemeier and Laura (Scheumann) Bultemeier. He married Ludella Bultemeier on July 2, 1950 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Preble and she survives after 67 years of marriage.
Verlin retired in 1987 from Dana Corp in Fort Wayne after 28 ½ years of service in the production line. In addition to his work at Dana, Verlin was also a life-long farmer in the Hoagland area.
He was a life-long member of St. John Lutheran Church, Bingen where he was a very active member and served in many offices. He was also active with Hoagland Area Advancement Association (HAAA).
Verlin greatly enjoyed his winter home in Florida with his wife and family. He was also an avid sports fan, particularly those sports involving his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Ludella Bultemeier of New Haven; son, Greg (Pam) Bultemeier of Decatur; two daughters, Bev Oehler of Huntertown & Sandy (Ken) Slowik of Stuart, FL; six sisters, Bernice Ostermeyer; Regina "Jenny" (Herman) Guenin; & Marilyn Hoffman all of Fort Wayne; Darlene (Dick) Stoppenhagen of Monroeville; Alice (Don) Selking of Mesquite, NV; & Lorine "Rene" (Gary) Hazelett of Naples, FL. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Corey (Shannon) Bultemeier, Jason (Kim) Bultemeier, Nathan (Kendra) Bultemeier, Stephanie Green, Derek Oehler, Dawn (Tony) Pruitt, Matthew (Katie) Freiburger, and Brett (Christine) Freiburger; a step-grandchild, Mitchell Slowik; and nine ½ great –grandchildren, Michael Bultemeier; Caleb Bultemeier; Bailee Long; Raegan Long; Gaven Green; Cooper Oehler; Brody Pruitt; Chandler Pruit; & Ellie Pruitt.
He was preceded in death by a great grandson, Dylan Pruitt; sister, Marjorie "Marge" Tingen - Price; brother and sister-in law, Erwin & Lorna Bultemeier; a step-brother, Norbert Bultemeier; and step-sister, Hildegard Kiefer.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 .m. Monday, October 30, 2017 at St. John Lutheran Church, Bingen with Pastor Peter Brock officiating. Interment will follow in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Bingen.
Friends will be received from 1 to 4 & 5 to 7 p.m., Sunday, October 29 at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
