Harold E. Thieme , 100, of Greeneville, TN passed away Thursday, December 14, 2017 at Laughlin Hospital in Greeneville.
He was born on Thursday, June 28, 1917 in Adams County the son of the late Walter Thieme and the late Paula (Bienz) Thieme. Harold married Alma M. Roehm on June 25, 1939 in Schumm, Ohio and she preceded him in death on February 17, 2001. On January 26, 2002, he married Ellen L. (Fuelling) Springer at St. John Lutheran Church, Flatrock in Monroeville, Indiana and she preceded him in death on November 18, 2012.
Harold was a graduate of Decatur High School. He retired in 1972 from the U. S. Post Office with 30 years of service.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Decatur where he had served as an elder, deacon, trustee, and had worked as the custodian for five years. Harold was a member of the Union Township Lion's Club; Sons of the American Legion; Blue Creek Conservation Club. Service to his community was important to Harold. He was active in the Adams County Sheriff's Reserve for over 45 years; Adams County Sheriff's Posse for six years; Adams County Civil Defense Board for 25 years; Deputy Civil Defense Director for nine years EMS for 20 years; the Red Cross Shuttle Service for eight years and Michigan - Indiana & Ohio Law Enforcement for 40 years. In addition, Harold served as a hospital volunteer for eight years. In his younger years, Harold was an accomplished baseball player. Following an injury, he continued his love of baseball by being the manager of the Blackstone Semi-pro Baseball Team for five years.
Survivors include his daughter, Donna Daniels of Greeneville, TN; son, Duane (Kathy) Thieme of Fort Wayne, IN; step daughters, Janet (Jeff) Azbell of Decatur, IN, Becky Jo (Dennis) Zelt of Monroeville, IN; sister, Hilda Stoppenhagen of Fort Wayne, IN; eight grandchildren; four step grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; eight step great-grandchildren and two foster great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Karel Dailey; sister, Ella Dietrich and a brother, Edgar Thieme.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 21, 2017 at Zion Lutheran Church-Decatur with Pastor James Voorman officiating. Interment will follow in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Decatur.
Friends will be received from 2-5 and 6-8p.m., Wednesday, December 20 at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur, Indiana.
