Richard D. Hamrick , 92, of Valparaiso, Indiana passed away Monday, January 8, 2018 at Porter County Hospital in Valparaiso, Indiana following a brief illness.
He was born on January 27, 1925 in Adams County, Indiana to the late Jesse R. Hamrick and the late Iola K. (Cordell) Hamrick. On September 15, 1945 Richard married Phyllis A. Wolfe in Willshire, Ohio and she preceded him in death on April 10, 2016.
Richard served his country in the United States Navy during WWII.
He was a former member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Decatur and a current member of Valparaiso Baptist Church.
Richard retired from International Harvester with 32 ½ years of service and had also worked at Indiana Furniture Showcase in Valparaiso.
Survivors include two daughters, Pamela K. (James) Deathe of Decatur & Cheryl A. (Dale) Bagnall of Valparaiso; two sons, Melvin D. (Kerry) Hamrick of Fremont & Myron E. (Linda) Hamrick of Decatur; two brothers, Ralph W. Hamrick of Decatur & Ray L. (Mary) Hamrick of Fort Wayne; two sisters, Phyllis K. Myers of Willshire, OH & Eunice E. Reppert of Fort Wayne; 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; & nine great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a grandchild, Christopher Deathe.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 15, 2018 at the Decatur Church of God with Pastor Tom Chapman officiating. Interment will follow in the Willshire Cemetery in Willshire, Ohio with Military Graveside Honors to be conducted by the American Legion Post #43 of Decatur.
Family & friends will be received from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, January 14, 2018 at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
Preferred memorials are to Valparaiso Baptist Church.
