Donald E. Hoffman , 88, of Hoagland, Indiana passed away Friday, January 19, 2018 at Parkview Hospital - Randallia in Fort Wayne.
He was born on Sunday, August 18, 1929 in Hoagland, Indiana the son of the late Walter N. Hoffman, Sr. and the late Pauline (Rogers) Hoffman. He married Joan Bultemeier on April 8, 1951 at Camp Stewart, Georgia.
He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged.
Don was a graduate of Hoagland High School in 1947. He retired from Rea Magnet Wire in 1990 with 42 years of service. Following his retirement he worked at Madison Cabinets as an installer until 2004. During his retirement years, Don also worked at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Homes, with Joan, until 2013.
He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Flatrock where he had served as an elder, trustee, and was a longtime volunteer at the church. He was also a member of the Heritage Lions Club in Hoagland, where he served as their treasurer and the American Legion Post #420 of Monroeville. Don enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and traveling. He enjoyed making custom birdhouses and crosses out of wood.
Survivors include his wife, Joan Hoffman of Hoagland; three sons, Ronald W. (Gail) Hoffman of Edinburgh, James K. (JoAnne) Hoffman of Fort Wayne, & Matthew P. Hoffman of Greenfield; six grandchildren, Chris Hoffman, Beth Hoffman, Drew Hoffman, Claire Hoffman, Reid Hoffman, & Connor Hoffman; and one great-grandson, Owen Johnson.
Don was preceded in death by a daughter, Beth Anne Hoffman on March 31, 1971, and stillborn twins, Timothy and Thomas Hoffman; two brothers, Walter N. Hoffman, Jr. & Frederick J. Hoffman; and a sister, Betty Guenin.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at St. John Lutheran Church, Flatroc k with Rev. Douglas Christian officiating. Interment will follow in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Flatrock in Monroeville.
Friends will be received from 2 to 5 & 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, January 23 at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur & one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday .
Preferred memorials are to Beth Anne Hoffman Scholarship Fund thru St. John, Flatrock or St. John Lutheran Church - Flatrock or the donor's choice.
