Maurice "Mort" Maldeney

Maurice “Mort” Maldeney , 78, of Monroeville, passed away Friday, March 16, 2018 at Heritage Park Nursing Home in Fort Wayne.

Mort was born on Wednesday, July 19, 1939 in Woodburn the son of the late Edward Maldeney and the late Lillian (Bopp) Maldeney. He married Joyce A. Hull in Columbia City, Indiana on August 21, 1965 and she preceded him in death on October 5, 2005. He was then united in marriage to Delores L. Fuhrmann on February 10, 2007 at the St. John Lutheran Church, Flatrock and she survives.

He was a longtime farmer, worked as a custodian for the Ft. Wayne Community Schools for 18 years and he ran a babysitting service with his first wife Joyce, for many years.

Mort enjoyed farming, woodworking, tinkering in the yard…and his neighbor's also, and his John Deere tractors!! He enjoyed traveling across the country with 1st wife, Joyce, and in later years with his 2nd wife, Delores.

Mort was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Flatrock and a former member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hessen Cassel. He was a member of the Hoagland Area Advancement Association and the Allen County 4-H Fairground Association. He was also a former 4-H leader for 31 years.

Survivors include his wife Delores Maldeney; daughter, Jean Ann (Christopher) Kendall of Hoagland; son, Mark Maldeney of Decatur; sister, Rita (Joe) Brinker of Fort Wayne; step-daughter, Lisa (Bill) Tucker of Fort Wayne; three step-sons, Erich P. Bleeke of Monroeville, David M. (Michelle) Bleeke of Decatur, and Kevin H. Bleeke of Orange City, FL; three grandchildren, Ashley Kendall, Nathan Maldeney, and Austin Maldeney; two step-grandchildren,  Kristen Tucker and Ashley Tucker.

He was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Marjorie (Stan) Nicholson; brother and sister-in-law, Richard (Ruth) Maldeney; and brother-in-law, Harlan Hull.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 23, 2018 at St. John Lutheran Church, Flatrock, 12912 Franke Rd, Monroeville with Rev. Douglas Christian officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery-Hessen Cassel .

Friends will be received from 2-5 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur and one hour prior to the services at church on Friday.

In lieu of flowers, Mort's family has requested preferred memorials be given to St. John Lutheran Church - Flatrock; Worship Anew; or the Alzheimer's Association.
