Barbara L. Schott , 90, of Rockford, Ohio passed away Sunday, March 25, 2018 at Laurels of Shane Hill in Rockford, Ohio. Born on Tuesday, January 10, 1928 in Celina, Ohio Barb was the daughter of the late John Mathews and the late Nora (Atkinson) Mathews. She married Alfred W. Schott on March 19, 1946 in Chattanooga, Ohio and he preceded her in death on January 11, 2011.
Barb was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Schumm, Ohio where she served on the Altar Guild. She graduated from the Rockford High School in 1946. Later in life, she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Ohio Northern University. She then went on to receive her Master's Degree in Education as well from Wright State University.
Barb was a longtime teacher and educator in the Parkway School District, teaching Junior-High Language Arts…all 30 years in the same room. Barb was very proud of the fact that she became a teacher somewhat later in life because she went to school, worked, and raised her children all at the same time. She thoroughly enjoyed her profession and cared deeply for every student she touched. Barb enjoyed spending time (counseling!) with her grandchildren, reading, Sudoku puzzles, fishing, and roller skating.
