Doris A. Scheumann

May 24, 1960 — April 8, 2018

Doris A. (Oetting) Scheumann , 57, of Hoagland, IN passed away Sunday, April 8, 2018 at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home in Fort Wayne after a long battle with cancer.

She was born on Tuesday, May 24, 1960 in Fort Wayne the daughter of the late Arthur Oetting and the late Ruth (Smith) Oetting. She married Lowell Scheumann on August 15, 1987 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne.

Doris’ had an extremely strong faith. Although for over 24 years, she and Lowell worked through the progression of metastatic breast cancer to bone cancer and all of the related issues and treatments, Doris’ faith never wavered. She always knew that greater than herself or her understanding, was the promise of salvation through Christ, and that faith sustained her as the disease progressed.

Doris and her husband, Lowell, spent their lives working the family farm. Another passion for Doris was her love of animals and her many pets. She and her beloved dog, Brandy, worked with a Therapy Dog program, visiting hospitals and nursing homes.

Another passion for Doris and Lowell was being very involved in the lives of their nephew and niece, Joshua and Jessica - they considered Doris their “Second Mom”. Doris’ sense of adventure and fun never diminished; she loved the thrill of riding roller coasters and was always ready for the next fun event.

Doris was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Flatrock.

Survivors include her husband Lowell; three sisters, Linda (John) Gospodarek, Diane (Michael) Cocks, Ronda Oetting Majors; and brother-in-law, Danny Rice, all of Fort Wayne. She is also survived by Lowell’s family, father, Alfred Scheumann of Hoagland; two brothers; Keith (Debbie) Scheumann of Woodburn and Alan Scheumann of Decatur; three sisters, Kathy (Bob) Boling of Ossian; Peggy (Chris) Kofer of NH, and Kelly (Len) Winebrenner of Hoagland; three nieces and one nephew of her sisters' family and many nieces and nephews of Lowell’s family.
