Katherine August

Katherine R. August , 96, of Decatur, Indiana passed away early Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home in Fort Wayne.

She was born on January 24, 1922 in Denver, Colorado to the late Aaron Weiland and the late Erna (Bleeke) Weiland. Katherine was united in marriage to Harold E. August on July 3, 1946 at Zion Lutheran Church, Decatur and he preceded her in death on July 13, 1990.

Katherine was employed by Adams County as a cook at the county jail for many years. In addition, she was the first cook at the Zion Lutheran School in Decatur. She also formerly worked for Holthouse on the Highway and Sir Lunch-a-lot Food Service.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Decatur and Tri Kappa Sorority in Decatur.

Kate enjoyed reading and until her arthritis became an issue, she was actively making embroidery and crafts.

She is survived by three daughters, Susan Combest of Rantoul, IL, Linda Zemanek & Mary Ann August both of Decatur, two sons, John (Sheila) August of Decatur & Eric (Rose) August of Linden, MI; five grandchildren, Steve Fast, Sarah August, Elizabeth (Jimmy) Mooney, Jennifer (Brian) Dudek, and Andrea (Paul) Abernathy; & five great-grandchildren, Hunter Fast, Katie Abernathy, Gordy Abernathy, Aaron Abernathy, and Theo Mooney.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Monday, May 7, 2018 at Zion Lutheran Church in Decatur with Rev. James Voorman officiating. Interment will follow in Decatur Cemetery.

Friends and family will be received from 1:30 p.m. Monday until service time at the church.

Preferred memorials are to Zion Lutheran School (Children’s Library); Zion Lutheran Church – Grounds Improvement; or Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home in Fort Wayne.
