LaVerne Stetler , 95, of Decatur, passed away on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at Adams Woodcrest in Decatur.
He was born on Sunday, November 19, 1922 in Adams County, the son of the late Lawerence H.C. Stetler and the late Violet (Fewless) Stetler. LaVerne was united in marriage to Betty Brewster on August 15, 1942 in Decatur. She preceded him in death on October 22, 2003.
LaVerne proudly served his county during World War II, serving in the United States Army, where he was honorably discharged after attaining the rank of Sergeant.
LaVerne worked at General Electric until retiring in 1985.
He was a member of the American Legion, Post #43 in Decatur
Survivors include his daughter, Mary Lou Stetler of Fort Wayne, and sister, Gladys "Mae" Clear of Greenville, OH; eight grandchildren, Jeff Schaadt, Linda Schaadt, Mary Adams, Pam McCullough, April Lautzenheiser, LaVerne Stevens, Roger Stevens Jr., and David Stevens; 16 great grandchildren; and 24 great great grandchildren, with one more on the way.
He was preceded in death by a daughter and son-in-law; Arlene (Roger) Stevens; one Great Grandchild; five Great Great Grandchildren; three half-brothers, Chester Stetler, Leroy Stetler and Kenneth Small; one half-sister, Lola Egley; one brother- in-law, Frank Clear.
In following LaVerne’s wishes, private graveside services will be held on Monday at Ray Cemetery in Monroe, IN with military graveside services conducted by the American Legion Post 43 Color Guard.
