Stanley L. Schmidt , 68, of Monroeville, IN passed away Saturday, September 1, 2018 at the Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home in Fort Wayne.
He was born on Monday, October 31, 1949 in Fort Wayne, Indiana the son of the late Sylvester Schmidt and the late Esther (Scheiber) Schmidt. He was united in marriage to Kathleen Manuel on October 8, 1976 at Precious Blood Catholic Church in Fort Wayne and she survives.
Stanley proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
He was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church in Monroeville, the Eagles Lodge of Decatur, American Legion Post #420 in Monroeville and the U.A.W.
He was employed at Tokheim for 34 years. He then retired from the United States Postal services after 10 years of service.
Stanley enjoyed fishing, gardening, his orchard, was a NASCAR fan, enjoyed riding his motorcycle, drinking his favorite beverage Busch Lite, loved the Chicago Bears and the Colts, a huge Cubs fan, oldies music, spending time with his brothers and friends at flea markets, and loved riding in his golf cart with his wife Kathleen.
Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Schmidt; two sisters, Yvonne Denny and Kathy Biltz ; two brothers, Thomas (Joyce) Schmidt, and Richard (Becky) Schmidt; half-sister, Loretta Ann Thomas and sister-in-law, Judy Schmidt.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Edward Schmidt and sister, Elaine Rice.
A Prayer service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday September 6, 2018 at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel in Monroeville followed by a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at the St. Rose Catholic Church in Monroeville with Fr. Lourdino Fernandes officiating. Military graveside honors will be conducted by American Legion Post #420 Color Guard. Interment will follow in the St. Rose Catholic Cemetery in Monroeville, Indiana.
Friends will be received from 3:30-8 p.m. Wednesday September 5, 2018 at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel in Monroeville, Indiana. A Holy Rosary service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel in Monroeville.
